Mt. Vernon Student Council is very active in school and community service projects throughout the year. These activities are led by co-sponsors Mrs. Olivio and Mrs. Marinari. The Student Council has a representative and alternate from each class, Kindergarten through 5th grade, as well as a President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. The officers elected for the 2009-2010 school year are: President – Jasmine Miller, Vice-President – Jennifer Small, Secretary – Megan Bridges, and Treasurer – Autumn Olson.

| Making Comfort Kits |

Red Cross
Student Council is involved again this year in making Red Cross comfort kits. The kits are given by the Red Cross to individuals and families who have lost their home to fire or natural disaster. We have a goal to make 150 comfort kits this year. The comfort kits include soap, washcloth, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo and comb. Donations for the comfort kits are welcome all year long.
In December 2009, the Mt. Vernon Student Council was honored with the Community Spirit Award by the Tampa Bay Chapter, South Pinellas Branch of the Red Cross for the comfort kits that were donated over the past year. Thanks for all of your donations.

Salvation Army
This year we collected 1,217 canned goods for the Salvation Army food drive. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this great cause. |

Labels & Box Tops
The students of Mt. Vernon collect Campbell Soup labels and General Mills’ box tops to redeem for cash for the school. Last year, the school received over $700 for our box tops. Thank you for your support. Keep saving and sending in your labels and box tops. |

Cookbook
An ongoing fundraiser is our very own Mt. Vernon Cookbook which consists of 200 recipes submitted by parents and staff. The cookbooks can be purchased for $7.00 in the school office or by calling 727-893-1815. |
